David Beckham in Singapore
Sixty children on Sunday got to spend time with former England captain David Beckham who was in town to lend his support for Marina Bay Sands' "Sands for Singapore Festival" - an initiative to give back to the community.
The recently retired midfielder also signed a Paris Saint Germain jersey which will be auctioned off for charity.
Beckham spent close to an hour with the 60 children from The Guardian Academy, a local sports institution and students from the Singapore Association for The Deaf's affiliated schools.
"I'm excited to see you all because obviously as you know I have four children and I obviously love them a lot and I've always had a very good relationship with working with children. It's very inspiring seeing you all. It's always inspiring watching children play football or play sports," said Beckham.
He added: "I have great memories of this city as it was it here that London won the 2012 Olympic bid. Coming back and seeing these kids today has been an inspiration to me. I'm honoured to be invited to the Marina Bay Sands and to launch this community sports initiative. This is a beautiful hotel, and Singapore is one of the most forward looking cities in the world."
