Football: Million dollar boost for LionsXII
SINGAPORE: The LionsXII got a million dollar boost on Saturday before they start their Malaysia Super League campaign.
It was a roaring piece of news for the players when Singapore hair care brand SilkPro decided to pick football for their 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility programme.
This latest partnership comes hot on the heels of StarHub's four-year deal with the team which was announced on January 5.
SilkPro is sponsoring the LionsXII for a year but the deal goes beyond just supporting football.
Tohtonku's Chief Executive Officer Calvin Lee said: "As the LionsXII is about fans, we will be inviting several families of the HELP Family Service Centre and the Young Women Muslim Association to the games. Only when family bonds will the nation come together.
"By stepping forward to do our part, we hope that other corporations will be encouraged to commit to this national journey. Good luck to the LionsXII and may we hear the Lions roar at Jalan Besar Stadium."

Tickets for LionsXII-Kelantan match
Tickets for LionsXII-Kelantan match go on sale from Friday
Tickets for the LionsXII opening tie against Malaysia Super League champions Kelantan on Jan 10 will go on sale starting Friday at noon, with grandstand tickets priced at S$12 each. Gallery seats cost S$7 each, but are fixed at S$2 for senior citizens and students.
The prices have been set by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) for all the LionsXII's MSL games held at the Jalan Besar Stadium.
Pre-match sales, limited to four tickets per person, are only available to Singaporeans and permanent residents.
In a move to drive up interest, the FAS are also introducing a limited number of season grandstand and gallery passes at S$160 and S$95, respectively, for the team's home matches.
Season ticket holders will be given priority to book Malaysia Cup and FA Cup tickets for matches at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Stage set for LionsXII's MSL opener
Stage set for LionsXII's MSL opener
SINGAPORE - In exactly one week, the LionsXII will mark Singapore's return to the Malaysia Super League (MSL) after a 17-year absence and everything is falling into place for V Sundramoorthy's team.
The expansion of Jalan Besar Stadium near the south entrance to add 2,000 more seats has been completed and tickets will go on sale Friday for the team's opening tie with defending champions Kelantan on Jan 10.

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau will also meet the LionsXII this week to brief them about the danger of match-fixing.
After a month of intensive training and three pre-season matches against Malaysian clubs, Sundram is close to deciding on his starting XI but will wait until the LionsXII complete their final tune-up game tomorrow against Johor FC. The match at Jalan Besar (7.45pm) will be open to spectators for free.
The LionsXII have enjoyed positive reviews despite narrowly losing to Johor FA 3-2 and escaping with a 3-3 draw against Angkatan Tentera Malaysia, both from the lower-tier Malaysian Premier League, and taking a 1-1 draw from MSL side PKNS.
But Sundram, dubbed "The Dazzler" in his heyday with the Lions in the 1980s and 1990s, is under no illusion of their campaign in the MSL.
"The build-up will take some time for the younger players, but we are getting there physically and mentally," he said. "The Malaysian teams play a faster and more physical game and in our pre-season friendlies we saw the players likely to measure up to the challenge quickly. It is going to be a tough season and against Kelantan next week it will be even more so as they are the MSL champions."
Captain Shahril Ishak said his side must be able to take the hard knocks as teams across the Causeway are always highly driven to beat a Singapore side.
"We saw that in the past 10 days in our three matches, they'll do everything to get the ball off you and the crowds will heckle us," said Shahril. "So we need to think and act fast when we are in possession, especially in midfield."
Sundram, however, confirmed that vice-captain Hariss Harun will play in his natural position in midfield despite talk he may be asked to shore up the backline.
But whether the midfield dynamo will be able to travel to Alor Star for the team's Jan 14 game in Kedah is still in doubt.
Hariss, along with central defender Safuwan Baharudin, and eight other players are still serving National Service and their availability for matches outside of Singapore is still being negotiated with the relevant ministries.
Said team manager Eugene Loo: "We are in touch with both the Ministries of Home Affairs as well as Defence to see if they can be released.
"They will have to give us the go ahead before these players can travel for our away matches."

Subramani leaving Home Utd
Subramani leaving Home Utd
Home United's S-League title aspirations took a knock when they fell 4-0 to Albirex Niigata last Saturday.
The Protectors must now brace for an even bigger hit come the end of the month, when assistant coach S. Subramani parts ways with the Bishan-based club.
"I have to do this now because an opportunity in the education sector has come along and if I don't take this career-development chance now, it may not come again," he told TODAY.
Mani, as he is affectionately known in the fraternity, moved to Home after winning the S-League Player of the Year title in 1998 with Tanjong Pagar United, and has stayed loyal to the club for the rest of his playing career that he called to a close in 2009.
He has won two S-League titles and four Singapore Cups with the club he has served as assistant coach since his retirement.
"This was not an easy decision to make, football has been my life all this while, but I could not pass up on this opportunity, and I won't rule out coming back to football in the future," added the 39-year-old Mani who has 115 caps for Singapore and a degree in Sport Management.
Said Home goalkeeper Lionel Lewis: "He's an extraordinary example of a footballer, a great captain and coach who's willing to help any one of us. That's something we'll definitely miss.
"But we know what we must do (in the league), there are nine games to go, and we have to focus."
Home general manager S. Mahalingam revealed that the club will not bring in a replacement until next season, with former Korean international Kim Dae Eui taking over Mani's duties.
